O presidente dos Estados Unidos, Joe Biden, decretou emergência no Estado de Nova York e ordenou assistência federal para suplementar esforços de resposta estadual e local devido a condições de emergência, diante da "severa tempestade de inverno que começou em 23 de dezembro de 2022, e continua". A decisão foi divulgada em comunicado, publicado no fim da noite da segunda-feira, 26.
Segundo autoridades locais citadas pela rede NBC, o número de mortos nos EUA pelo clima extremo e seus efeitos já estava em 57. Nova York é um dos Estados mais atingidos e sua governadora, a democrata Kathy Hochul, agradeceu Biden pela declaração de emergência, feita a pedido dela.
Hochul ainda agradece pelo esforço dos funcionários para responder à emergência diante da "nevasca histórica". A governadora também adverte que havia mais neve prevista para esta terça-feira, reforçando que equipes estaduais, a Guarda Nacional e soldados estão de prontidão para ajudar as pessoas que necessitem.
